FAMILY UPDATE: MEET CHARLOTTE!

I swear, Andrew and I are turning into 'Hoarders: Cat Edition' as the weeks go by. Last Monday night - without a second thought - we welcomed a sweet 4 week old little girl into our home by the name of Charlotte "Charlie" Baslow. A litter of kittens were born and abandoned in the right field pavilion at Dodger Stadium (where Andrew works) and we of course don't have the ability to say, "No," when it comes to animals. Adding to our ever growing family of furry babies, I'm pleased to introduce you to our sweet, teeny tiny little baby girl.

When I adopted Chaplin and Cal they were already weened and fairly independent, so they just roamed the house on their own right away. NOT THE SAME WITH A TEENY TINY! Wow, I had no idea how stressful and needy and totally CUTE wee little kittens are! Formula? Check. Shoebox lid turned litter box? Check. Closet covered in kitten litter and blankets galore? Check. Two pissed off rival siblings? Check check check!!!

Apparently I finally taught Chaplin and Cal the importance of sharing... see little Charlotte tucked in behind Cal on the bottom? This only took 5 days to accomplish without a ton of hissing and biting.

Sacked out behind the couch with her flamingo... how cute is that pink mouth???

Looking forward to keeping you posted on how this little bug is changing our lives - and my sleeping habits!

HALLOWEEN

Andrew and I were supposed to go to the famous Mr. Bone's Pumpkin Patch in West Hollywood tonight to pick a pumpkin out... but then the Cardinals had to go and win game 6 of the world series last night so our plans for this evening have been put on hold to watch game 7.

To get in the mood of the trick-or-treaters to come on Monday here is a very fun idea to decorate the interior of your home! Why not turn your furniture into ghosts??? We put up purple and orange twinkly lights in our windows but haven't done a thing with the interior to get us in the spirit of the holiday. Placing white sheets and pooling them over the furniture is such a cute idea, and with various sheets on hand, a FREE decoration at that.

I would love love love to have been a guest at that wedding! I also love how a scaled down version of this soiree could totally be executed for an engagement party in your parents backyard, or for a dinner at home on your patio with your close friends. The twinkly lights and the curve of the tables instead of one straight line are what do it for me. Can you hear the soft French music playing in the background?

I know its not just me who adores a little chevron pattern... I've been seeing it EVERYWHERE lately! There is so much attitude and elegance that the chevron pattern demands, you can't help but smile when you see it used. It can completely change the look of a neutral room with just a pop of pattern, or enhance a dramatic space even more when mixed with other textile patterns.

The difference is that I come to your space and discuss your design needs in person. Many questions can be answered with my on-site consultation service. I'm hungry and foodgawking... and came across these BEAUTIFUL Bramble Jelly Shots over at the jelly shot test kitchen and just HAD to share the recipe. Wouldn't these be super fun to share at this weekends Memorial Day BBQ?

BRAMBLE JELLY SHOTS

Recipe by Toby Cecchini and reprinted from the NYT Magazine Blogs

For the float:

6 ounces crème de mûre (blackberry liqueur)
7 grams (1 packet) Knox unflavored gelatin
1 package (3 ounces) grape-flavored Jell-O gelatin
1 cup hot water

In a small mixing bowl, sprinkle the Knox and the Jell-O into the hot water and stir until completely dissolved, 5 to 7 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir in the crème de mûre. In a small, nonreactive baking dish or loaf pan, pour a few drops of cooking oil (grapeseed works well) and wipe out with a paper towel, coating the entire vessel with the barest layer. Pour blackberry float mixture in and set to chill in refrigerator for at least 2 hours and up to overnight, making certain it is level.

For the gin sour:

1 cup gin (lemon infused) (Note: vodka may be substituted!)
2/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
28 grams (4 packets) Knox unflavored gelatin
1 cup hot water.

Juice enough lemons to give you 2/3 cup juice, keeping the hulls as you squeeze. Roughly chop the squeezed hulls and put them in a coverable container along with the gin and the lemon juice. Leave at room temperature for at least 2 hours. It’s a good idea to do this before starting the float, so that by the time that has firmed up, your infusion is ready to go. When the float layer is firm, bloom the gelatin in the hot water by sprinkling it slowly while stirring, and continuing stirring until fully dissolved. Add the sugar and stir until that is also fully dissolved. Strain the gin mixture off from the lemon hulls through a fine sieve or chinoise and add it into the gelatin mixture, stirring well. Over a spoon, so as not to gouge a divot in the float layer, pour the lemon sour mix onto the float layer and return to refrigerator, again checking for levelness. Chill overnight. When ready to serve, cut into squares, or use a cookie cutter for shapes, and pull up carefully, using a cake spatula to get under the float layer. Garnish with a blackberry and/or a thin wedge of candied lemon.

I would love to give a huge, "THANK YOU" to Seattle based pixelimpress on etsy for these 'seriously cute' chevron business cards! I had been looking for something a bit more colorful and fun and when I came across her work, I just HAD to have them. She offers them on her etsy shop in a square size, but I wanted a traditional business card size which she was happy to switch to.

The color palette she works with are all equally beautiful and I LOVE that you can mix and match the color of your chevron stripe with the color of your font. When I run out and need to order more, I think I will do a play with tone on tone for a dramatic look.

FEELING BLUE

I've been secretly obsessed with turquoise/blue/teal furniture for about 8 years now and REALLY want to incorporate some into our new house. Found some of these... what do you think?

I like the color of this one, but the style may be a little too formal for me.

This one is at the TIPPY TOP of my list right now. I can't decide if I should order 2 of them to be used as bedside tables or one for my entry way. The height is a little big for a bedside table but I just LOVE the way it looks... AND its on SALE!

This sweetie is the perfect size for a bedroom but I'm not sure how I feel about the gold around the edges.

I really like the simplicity of this one from CB2, and while its priced right I don't like that it lacks concealed storage.

This is my second favorite... kind of like a red headed step child. I would take it and love it if it was given to me but its not my first choice. But the color is perfect!

ROSE GOLD

I know this is a little late to be posting about the current craze of rose gold, but I just couldn't help myself...

In the process of starting my etsy shop {vintage loops}, I have found a new obsession with searching all the goodies that sweet etsy dealers have to offer... and I am LITERALLY in LOVE with this ring I found! Its very talented maker is EidelPrecious, based in Toronto, Canada. Oh how I could imagine wearing this ring EVERYDAY... sigh.

But it got me thinking about the 'trend' of rose gold... and in my opinion, I don't think its a trend at all. Call me old fashion, but I have always loved rose - and yellow - gold, and I happen to wear it everyday. So I did a little searching and found these beauties for you to fast your eyes on!

I have been searching for some ideas for our master bedroom for quite some time, and it seems the one theme I keep coming back to is clear: upholstered headboards, symmetry and dramatic lighting. When talking to Andrew I had suggested a neutral almost all white palette with pops of turquoise, navy and gold as accents... but looking at all of these images, I don't see any of that here. I guess its a lot harder than I thought to imagine since I can't seem to find exactly what style we are as a couple yet.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM

Yesterday was my darling Mothers birthday... and tonight we are celebrating with a dinner at Jose Andres "Bazaar" restaurant at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles. I am beyond thrilled to return to this fine dining establishment with my foodie mom. She has been counting down the days - 365 to be exact - until she could sample some of the FUNNEST food on the planet for a second time.

Last year we had spherical olives... carrot bombs.... philly cheese steaks... cotton candy foie gras.... and other crazy molecular gastronomy eats that were beyond amazing. I can't wait to see what she orders tonight!

So cheers to my wonderful, hilarious, genius, incredibly beautiful and kind Mom, who I adore immensely and can't live without. I love you!

Surprising Andrew with a fancy schmancy dinner in downtown LA tonight at Border Grill. I took advantage of a Groupon {can I just say publicly how much I ADORE Groupon?} for this place and I'm super excited to eat some upscale, SUSTAINABLE, and inventive mexican food tonight!

I have been a fan of Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken since I was a younger kid watching "Too Hot Tamales" on the Food Network and fell even more in love with Susan when she appeared on Top Chef Masters last season. In going over to the Border Grill website, I see that Mary Sue will be competing on Masters this season premiering April 6th! Being a considerably stalkerish Top Chef fan - Brian Malarkey can attest to that - I am SUPER PUMPED to eat their food and watch the competition heat up on Bravo soon.

CIRCA WHO?

I know I have written posts about how much I love the nature of blogging before, but I just had to share a wonderful thing that just happened to me. With Andrew and I moving into our new place, I have been desperate for some color and pattern to add to our neutral palette... especially in the form of throw pillows for our clay colored sofa. And since I am now cohabiting with the male species I have to be conscious to not have so much 'girlie flowery' stuff everywhere. So without using stripes or checkers, the ikat pattern seems to be the right way to go visually.

I had seen some gorgeous greyish blue {slate I guess} ikat pillows Paloma had posted on la dolce vita but they just weren't screaming out to me. I figured snooping around on pinterest would be the best way to go in search for something ikat related as inspiration. A few clicks later and I stumbled upon these GORGEOUS chairs:

I naturally clicked on the direct link... and lo and behold entered an online wonderland of REAL vintage furniture, Circa Who, located in Palm Beach {Florida}.

Apparently I am the only one on the planet who didn't know this incredible store exists - unless you reading didn't as well - and I am just utterly thankful to have found it. They have TONS of inventory to chose from in many different design styles and eras to fit anyone's needs. While drooling through the images of everything they have - WITH THE MOST REASONABLE PRICES EVER! - I couldn't help but fall in love with everything.

I would love to hang these hollywood regency mirrors {550 for the pair!} side by side over a double sink vanity in my imaginary master bathroom with carerra marble and subway tiles for contrast.

This chippendale credenza blows. my. mind! The lucite knobs are brilliant.... too bad its sold. I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

Can we just take a minute to fall even more in love with this lucite console table??? How fun would that look in an entry way with some big colorful lamp on it??? Total steal at $550.00 bucks.

Andrew and I have a queen bed, but if we had a king, I would absolutely buy this fretwork headboard for $450.00. It would look so fun against a dove grey wall to really show off the detail of the frame.

So my search for ikat pillows continues a few hours late considering I am now stuck on filling my home with furniture from Circa Who. Here is a little tidbit of information on what and who Circa Who is:

CAT VERSUS HUMAN

While following twitter today, Grace Bonney at design*sponge shared a very cute website: cat versus human. Its written by a woman in San Francisco who is an illustrator {and a very good one at that} and her various comics involving life with her cats.

This particular comic made me laugh thinking of Andrew and I living together with Chaplin. He gets up on the weekends and makes breakfast for us... and I am usually laying in the living room playing with Chaplin while he scrambles eggs. I can only IMAGINE the 'conversations' he hears between me and Chaplin - which is really just human talk and kitty meows.

Life would be so boring without furry babies running around the house after mice.

My goodness its getting hot in Los Angeles! Can you smell summer coming around the corner like I can? I have been a California girl my whole life, but since moving to Beverly Hills - and dating Andrew - I am noticing the weather patterns more and more every day. Last night I had a hard time falling asleep without a ceiling fan, and I actually turned on the air conditioning at POM POM today for the first time since I've started this job because it was so warm.

So while I'm inside working and typing away what is it like out there? Anyone going to the beach or for a walk in the park like I'd like to do?

TEXTURES

I have been smitten for quite some time with this trend of textured bedding. It seems that the new patterned duvet these days is actually various ruffles and stitching of the same color to give that wonderful lived in and romantic look for your bedroom. In my opinion, there is no better place in the home {other than the kitchen} than a beautifully arranged and welcoming bedroom.

{This one reminds me of the ruffles on an old 70's tuxedo shirt with that brown trim!}

My current bed is a soft gray linen upholstered headboard and railings with nailhead trim that can be dressed up in any color and fabric. I'm thinking I may just have to break down and purchase one of these stunning duvets so I too can lounge and sleep with sweet ruffly dreams. And how fun would it be to mix and match the same color palette but with different textures!?!

THE ITSY-BITSY KITCHEN

I was looking through an old copy of Domino magazine today and found this beautiful image of a very teeny tiny kitchen. I can't even begin to count the times I have wished for more counter space and shelving in my own. But seeing inspiring images like this makes me feel better about the space I do have. I love the floating shelf above the sink for displaying their beautiful glassware and the way they use the 'back splash' underneath the shelf for storage as art.

An upper ledge, already built in, has become a crucial place for storage, but the exposed vantage means that everything on it has to look appealing. Not practical. We use bistro glasses for wine." To maximize wall space, they found some attractive, reasonably priced knives from Bodum and mounted a magnetic strip on which to hang them. Originally, there were two bare light bulbs sticking out of the ceiling. The couple replaced these with inexpensive but sleek, adjustable Home Depot fixtures, which are perfect for task lighting.

FEELING COZY

One of my dear friends turned me on to the 'cozy'. She traveled all the way from Nashville, TN to meet me in Las Vegas for 2 days... and when we stopped at Coffee Bean for a blended mocha she was positively devastated she forgot her drink cozy back in the hotel. It took all I had not to giggle at her expression of defeat for now having to wrap a paper napkin around her frosty beverage and fret about her fingers getting cold.

It got me thinking: what other items out there require a cozy?

An owl tea cozy for your tea pot! How adorable!!! I would love to receive one of these as a gift, total smile on my face.

Technically, a pillow cover is somewhat of a pillow cozy. These cable knit pillows would be lovely for curling up on to read a book while wearing some equally cozy socks.

An apple cozy is genius. There are many times I just toss an apple in my purse for later snacking and always end up pulling it back out with a few bruises and fuzz.

My mother is an extremely talented artist. She has been painting and creating and making beautiful things for as long as I can remember. Today, she opened up her very first ETSY shop! I'd like to introduce you to the Canvas Bakery, where you can find all of your handmade sweet treats. She only has a few items posted as of today, but her collection will be growing over the next few weeks for sure.

My favorite item right now are these beautiful hand sculpted cake boxes for holding trinkets and such in. She uses wooden hinged boxes and COVERS them with 'frosting' to look just like a cake. You can customize your cake box in any 'flavor' you'd like.

I can just imagine giving one of my girlfriends who is currently engaged a gift in one of those boxes. Perfect for the bride to be! Or to my other girlfriend who is currently pregnant for her daughters first tea party. Sweet treats indeed!

Doesn't that frosting just look positively delicious? Hard to believe its not real...

I realize this has nothing to do with interior design, but I thought I'd share my pure love and devotion for the Chicago Bears. I am sitting in my pj's STILL in bed from this morning with my eyes glued to the tv watching the game. This whole season I have fiercely fought for my Bears and shared my reasons why they are the best team in the NFL to anyone who would listen to me. I have cheered and rooted until my voice goes hoarse, and have believed in them even when Cutler and Urlacker got injured.

So I have one favor to ask to the football Gods of the world: can the Bears PLEASE win this game today so I can cheer for my team in the Super Bowl?

CLEAN SHEETS

Sitting here at the airport waiting for our flight to depart after six days in Las Vegas. I must admit, six days in Vegas is a VERY long time... our throats are sore from screaming and laughing - or breathing in the second hand smoke - our skin is dry from the lack of moisture in the air, and sadly our pockets are empty from our unlucky gambling. Did you know you can lose over $100 in 5 minutes?

While the beds at the Bellagio were positively dreamy, I am stuck longing for the peace and quiet and fluffy goodness of my own cot at home. Sweet dreams soon my dear, sweet dreams soon.

The countdown has finally begun... Las Vegas bound in 12 hours. It's 1:30 in the morning - and I while I have my CLOTHES packed, I haven't even begun to pack my shoes. Busting out my sparkly dresses and accessories has left me exhausted. I think I shall sleep now, and dream of what peep toed Louboutins my feetsies will be dancing in for the next SIX days!

FALLING IN LOVE WITH LAUNDRY

There is something particularly upsetting about washing clothes. I'm not sure if its because it has turned into an everyday chore in my life - because we all constantly are wearing and dirtying our garments - or the fact that after the washing and the tumbling comes the folding and ironing and dear lord, hanging and putting away that makes me want to cry. Its my least favorite activity to do on my day off; I would much rather be cleaning the kitchen or dusting the blinds than bending over and over again in spin cycles.

However, after finding these little gems I think I could get used to the idea of washing clothes in a spaces like these.

SOMETIMES SPARKLY

Finding that perfect accessory to complete your space such as window treatments, objects d'art and throw pillows can be hard work. You want all of the elements of the room to play off one another to enhance the overall feeling of beauty. I like to do the same with my outfits: pick my larger neutral pieces and then build upon them with accessories for balance. This chair is the perfect example of such juxtaposition. The raw burlap upholstery mixed with the crisp white of the painted wood could go perfectly unnoticed in any room, however with the help of mr. sequins over there, she dazzles!

The same can be said with this outfit ms. Jessica Alba is modeling here. She pairs beautiful, understated - but sexy - black heels with the zigzag Balmain so that the look is quintessential chic but rocker at the same time.

We can't see the shoes on this sweet little number but I can only imagine with the swept up hair how fabulous a pair of nude peep toe pumps would look for an evening out.

This golden girl is my favorite look of these three dresses. She pairs her stunning gold sequin ensemble with nude fishnet tights and a khaki army bag for balance. The fishtail braids in her hair add that extra 'oomph' that is necessary to pull off such a show stopper.

Now if only I could get ALL three of these looks into my arsenal for Las Vegas next week to glitter as bright as the strip!

IN THE MIX

I am planning a business AND pleasure trip out to Las Vegas in two weeks and have been online DEVOURING menus of restaurants where I want to eat, and can't seem to narrow it down because not only does the food sound amazing, but the INTERIORS are killing me! As of now, just based on decor alone I am begging - whom I'm begging I don't know - to visit The Mix inside The Hotel, Mandalay Bay.

While breathtaking views of the city from up on the 60th floor sounds nice, I do believe my eyes will be feasting on the 14,000 hand blown glass bubbles dangling over my head. They look so dreamy! I could picture installing a much smaller version over my imaginary claw foot bath tub sometime in the future for that same effect.

As I dine on Tender Potato Gnocchi with Asparagus, Parmegiano, and Summer Truffle, and sip St. Germain cocktails, I'll be planning my next escape later in the evening over to the darker side of The Mix: The Bar.

CAN I BORROW YOUR FIREPLACE?

On certain evenings when it's raining outside, I happily sit at my desk to work because I get to listen to the sound of rain as it hits my windows. There is something so soothing about that sound. I love the way the wind blows the rain against the cold glass and it lightly sprinkles the surface every now and then. Even the overflowing rain gutter has a nice ring to it as it pours out its contents to the concrete below.

The only thing missing is a nice warm fireplace to sit next to. And maybe a lavender + honey latte....

Happy 2011 EVERYONE!

There is something special to be said about waking up to a new year full of possibilities and new insights. The date of 1.1.11 is ultimately a new beginning in itself. This is the beginning to my year of OPTIMISM.

Anyone who knows me can tell you that 2010 was my year for CHANGE. I changed everything in my personal life. I moved back home with my parents. I graduated college. I changed my eating habits. I went back to my natural hair color. I changed my waistline. I motivated myself to become a happier more fulfilled person. I finally fell in love with someone who was just like me. I learned to pay attention to the small details in conversation. I traveled and changed my language barriers. I allowed myself to have fun. I walked 60 miles in 3 days for Susan G. Komen even though I despise exercise. I got on the treadmill and verified that I still hate exercise even after the fact. I changed my overall outlook on life. Hell, I even changed my style of under garments.

The point I am trying to make is that I DECIDED with every ounce of my being that I wanted a better life. I was too serious, too stuck on negativity with daily life. Nothing was good enough for what I wanted - and I didn't even know what I wanted really anyways. It took 365 days of changing to get to where I am today: an optimist in training.

Realize when I write 'in training' that I am allowing myself to work on what I want to become. My attitude is positive at best but its not always optimistic. I live a 'strategic' life where I like to weigh all possible outcomes. I love that and hate that about myself most of the time because I ask EVERYONES advice about everything before I make a decision... even though my gut instinct is always the same as their recommendations. Even so, its a challenge for me to be optimistic and jump heart first without weighing my options. So this is my newest endeavor as of today - to be the best possible ME I can be.

My girlfriend Lindsay turned me on to a new website: Pinterest (sounds like pin-terest). Pinterest is an online place to catalog the things you love. Its a social avenue full of things that others - tastemakers and friends alike - follow to collect and share the things they love and share within a community of other like-minded people. I figured since my resolution is to be an OPTIMIST why not join something where others are posting things they LOVE too? As of now they are only allowing members who have received invitations to join their site, so I went ahead and invited myself. I encourage all of you creative design oriented peeps to do the same so we can create an image library based on what inspires us to be the best possible ME's.

IT'S 40 DEGREES OUTSIDE

Can you believe all of the crazy weather we have been having? It seems like just a few weeks ago I was walking around in flip flops and a tank top while running errands. Tonight B and I were driving home from an adventure at Costco - which is an understatement considering it was the night before new years eve and EVERYONE in Southern California is at Costco buying champagne in bulk - and saw the outside temp register at 40 degrees {F}.

I logged on to facebook not a mere 20 minutes later to see my cousin Autumn post that it was snowing in Scottsdale, AZ. It got me thinking, all bundled up here in the kitchen about how wonderful the cold weather is. It's a perfect reason for me to bust out my knee high leather boots, brass button down pea-coats and beautiful pashminas wound around my neck when I brave the outdoors. Not only do I look impeccably chic - its just as effortless as my tank and flops.

But fashion aside, the cold weather brings something much more magical that most don't realize. Its a time to stay INSIDE your home and enjoy the company of those who dwell indoors with you. Its a time to play board games with your brothers, a time to watch movies with your parents, a time to sit around the table and eat warm soup with your loved ones, a time to share a blanket and a fire with the person who keeps you warm at night.

Its the little things in life that are free - such as friends and family - that we all seem to take for granted. Just last week I was near complaining myself to death about driving all over the place on Christmas day and, "why can't I just have my own Christmas that everyone ELSE can come to?" but then it dawns on me that these moments are all I have on a lot of occasions to look forward to. I had the BEST time seeing everyone I love within a 30 mile radius no matter how much time I spent alone in the car. The gifts we all give one another are 'nice' and 'fun to use or look at' but the real gift is the one we get everyday; the gift of love.

The cold weather is very easy to complain about, but complaining about too much love is ridiculous. How lucky we are.

DAY DREAMING...

Do you ever find yourself day dreaming about nothing in particular and revel at where your mind can take you? Do tap into those hidden moments alone with just yourself and actually pay attention to how crazy your train of thoughts can be? If you are anything like me, it starts with a picture just like this one: I lay in my bed in the morning devouring wedding and design blogs on my iPhone. {I'm not engaged nor married but who the heck cares, a girl can dream}. I click on each image to open it bigger so I can study the intricate details and 'find' the beauty in things others don't see. I hover my finger over the image and wait for the "SAVE IMAGE" icon to pop up and then greedily stash it away for more private enjoying later on.

A few days go by, and then I open my image library and swoon all over again. Now I'm dreaming up where to put these beautiful flowers in my "DREAM HOME" and where on earth will it be. I now head over to www.craigslist.com and start looking at Spanish Bungalows in Pasadena and Highland Park. I find one or two that tickle my fancy and then EMAIL myself the link. This little beauty is for sale... dream again.

Somehow my mind goes into furniture mode, and now I'm online looking at Elle Decor and Architectural Digest, and Ebanista and finding pieces to fit in this gorgeous imaginary 1940s Spanish Bungalow that I don't actually have.

About thirty minutes goes by and I don't quite understand how I've gotten myself from a beautiful bouquet of flowers on Green Wedding Shoes to a large carved ebony wood credenza at Hudson but it just happens! This is creativity at work. This is EXACTLY the type of thing I have TRAINED my brain to do. To get inspired is an understatement... instead I actually create a different LIFE for myself all from an image I see. What a wonderful gift I have.

Hey y'all! I'm just getting all packed up for a trip back to Nashville to visit my dearest friends, Lee & Page Morris, along with some other wonderful friends of mine back in TN. I am most looking forward to that quality time with my besties, but I am also ECSTATIC about the Lynchburg 'Jack Daniel's BBQ Fest' as its my first time attending such a fete.

I can't decide if I should pack my plaid and flannels or something with an elastic waistband for how much FOOD and BBQ I am going to be eating! This is sure to be a trip chalk full of fun memories and laughter.

Found out we are ALSO going to a TN Titans game while we are there at LP Field. O-M-G I am stoked!

NEW YORK CITY

Leaving on a jet plane - a Virgin America jet plane that is - for a week long trip to New York. Visiting family and museums and restaurants and clothing stores AND everything else the big apple has to offer. CAN'T wait!!!!

Just thinking about walking around the streets of Manhattan has got me singing Alicia Keys' New York as I pack my bags.

First thing I have GOT to do is grab a hot dog from the sweatiest vendor I find, and score a sweet knock off gold Rolex. It's the little things that make me the most happy really... ahhh, a girl can dream.

But seriously, I am thrilled to be going back to the city; its been over ten years since I was there and I just get so giddy about the smells and the people! Can't wait to tell you all about my trip and show you the treasures I find when I return.

THE CIRCUS CATCH

I wanted to give a short and sweet shout out to one very amazing Author, Andrew Baslow, of The Circus Catch. He has just recently joined the wonderful world of blogging, and is an aspiring broadcast journalist. His (first ever) blog is already gaining lots of interest in the blogsphere which centers around the wonderful world of baseball.

A recent college graduate who had hoped to be picked up professionally, has in a sheer chance of luck - whether he wants to believe it or not - is currently on the path to finding his true passion... and I happen to believe it to be a sports writer. His writing is blunt and to the point which could potentially offend some people, but his genuine love for the game is glaringly obvious that you can't help but smile.

AN OFFICIAL COLLEGE GRADUATE

I GRADUATED COLLEGE!

What a silly wonderful ridiculous feeling to be done with my college career. Of course everyone wants to know, "What are you going to do with yourself now? Do you have a job yet? Are you moving out of your parent's house???" My answer has strategically been, "I'm traveling!" which pretty much means... I DON'T HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT YET!

While I have been doing my fair share of travel (Bullhead City, Nashville, Don Pedro) I have also been searching for the 'dream job', and have come to realize I don't know if my 'dream job' is out there. I want to make enough money to be comfortable but also have enough free time for my expanding social calendar. It seems like the interior design world is fully saturated with FILLED positions and my options are slim.

So while I continue on with my travels, I am keeping my eyes and ears open for a new adventure of what will happen next!

THE TOP CHEF PROJECT

As I have said before, I believe design goes hand in hand with all the other creative fields (architecture, fashion design, etc.) in the world, but the one thing I think a lot of people forget is the creative genius behind food. Not only do chef's have to research, plan and taste what they want to make, they also have to visualize it and how it's colors, textures and smells will blend together. Planning a dinner is very much the same as planning a room. You have to take into consideration WHO is going to be eating/living in the space, what they like, what turns them on and off, and how they are going to interpret what you have created.

I think that because I am such a visual learner, and I grew up eating really good food (thanks to my stepfather Harry) I have become some what of a 'foodie'. I appreciate spending time in the grocery store, shopping for produce at Grower's Direct, watching endless amounts of cooking shows on the Food Network - preferably back to back - and shopping at Williams Sonoma, Sur la Table, and Whole Foods.

Last year for 2009, my new year's resolution was to teach myself how to be a better cook, by cooking ALL the recipes in the Top Chef Cookbook. I was going to go in order of publication and write a blog about it. I bought the rights to http://www.thetopchefproject.com/ and immediately started. I was initially inspired by reading the book, Julie & Julia which has since been turned into a movie starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. Anyways, I got all excited and dove head first into cooking... and it was so much fun! However, within a matter of weeks I stopped. JLID had slowly started to take off and I was concentrating more on school and work than I ever had before in my life. My free time, and my passion for food was put on the back burner, which I know happens to a lot of people, and I totally stopped the project.

Thankfully, one of my friends pointed out to me yesterday, that it had been a year since I stopped the project... and asked why had I stopped? Nothing changed in my life that would make me stop cooking. I still cooked dinner nearly every night of the week, making recipes in my head that were good, sometimes great, often not so great, and my love for Top Chef was still ever present. So I got to thinking, and even though I am INSANELY busy right now taking 6 classes for my last semester at Dominguez Hills, I am going to start again. There is no excuse to loose your passion for something you are passionate about!

So I invite you to join me in my re-start of The Top Chef Project and see what happens next.

ROCHESTER

I just got home from a very cold yet beautiful trip out east to visit my family in Rochester, NY. My wonderful cousin Emily invited me to baptize her son, Jacob and I jumped at the opportunity to be a Nouna (Godmother in Greek) and take a much needed vacation.

While I am a California girl at heart, I like to think I did pretty good in the FREEZING cold winter weather out there. I have never experienced 'wind chill' outside of Mammoth and dealing with it for five days was enlightening.

My godson Jake did amazingly well at his baptism, even managing to spit out 'blah blah blahh' as the Father was denouncing Satan from his little body. It was quite hilarious!!! He only cried for a few moments, and was pleasant even after getting dunked in holy water and rubbed down in oil.

All in all, a wonderful trip that was obviously too short. I miss my family dearly, and I can't believe it had been 10 (YES, 10) years since we had all seen one another. Emily and I made a pact to see each other at least every other year now, alternating between California and New York.

Gray Inspirations

For some reason or another, I have noticed my increased interest in using the color gray. I don't know if it's because my tastes are changing, or I am just starting to grow as a designer and my style is evolving. I have been finding spaces recently that speak to me with a soft palette of muted grays and whites. Just wanted to see if these spaces speak to you as well?

I love the elephant grey on the walls here contrasted with the black, white and tan with subtle touches of gold.
Grey and Orange are an unusual combination, but they look great together in this bedroom. I don't know how I feel about the plates on the wall... I usually reserve that kind of art piece for a dining room or kitchen.
This is quite possibly my dream bedroom. Don't you just want to fall right into that bed?

Who Doesn't Love a Daisy?

I stopped by Trader Joe's (my FAV place ever!) on Friday to do some shopping for dinner, and found these beautiful daisies. I was inspired immediately to bring them home and put them on my coffee table.

Here they are 4 days later... still beautiful and happy.

How can you not smile looking at these cheerful flowers? :)

The Side Tables Came In!!!

The Yancey petrified wood side tables from Hudson (NY) finally came in... and I am soooooooooooo in love with how they look.

The pictures don't do them justice really... they are simply exquisite.

Something to keep in mind for the next time I order these one of a kind pieces: MAKE SURE THEY ARE GOING ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF THE HOME! My poor delivery guy's were sweating profusely trying to get these 500lb (EACH) pieces up a flight of stairs. Guys if you are reading this: you don't have to work out for a month!

As some of you know, my 'real' job (real as in 'job that pays my bills' real) is waiting tables at Houston's in Irvine. I enjoy my job very much when I meet incredible guests who are friendly and polite. I enjoy my job even more when I get a new client by waiting on them! I had the luxury of waiting on a gorgeous, newly engaged couple the other night and we got to talking... and it looks like I will be working with Erin on her home in Marina del Rey!

Finally!!! Finally!! Finally! It is finally time to start my first install for the San Juan Capistrano project! I have been working with my client since August on his home, and praying that it doesn't rain so I can get him and his beautiful family moved in.

While I don't have any professional photography to show you (yet) I can show you some of the pieces that are going into the home.
